“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Nexium to treat GERD,” explains Dr. David N. Giffen, MD, and lead author of the report “A New Drug, New Treatments for GERD: An Overview,” published by the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA).
“The FDA has not approved a new drug for GERD, but many clinicians will be familiar with it and it’s a great option,” Dr. Giffen says.
The drug is intended for use in adults to treat reflux symptoms that occur more frequently in adults with GERD. It works by blocking a natural breakdown in the stomach that occurs in the acid that causes reflux. The chemical breakdown in the stomach can cause heartburn and, in some cases, heartburn in the first three months of treatment.
“We’re pleased with this new drug because it’s an effective treatment,” Dr. “It’s a great treatment for people with GERD, because it will help them to heal.”
According to the report, which was released last May, “A new drug for treating GERD is expected to be approved by the FDA later this year.” The FDA is also reviewing other drugs for the same reason. In a statement, the agency noted the new drug is “a prescription drug and not an over-the-counter drug.”
As mentioned above, the FDA approved Nexium for heartburn. The drug, which works by blocking the natural breakdown of acid in the stomach, is a first-line treatment for GERD, as it’s a treatment for reflux.
“If a person has a heartburn and a stomach ulcer, the risk for heartburn should be lower,” Dr. “It may also help to lower the risk of heartburn.”
“The FDA is working on a new drug that will help to address this condition, but it may not be as effective as a traditional treatment,” Dr. “It may also be more effective for some people who have GERD.”
The FDA’s approval of a new drug for GERD “was announced in December 2017,” according to the report. The drug is intended for use in adults to treat reflux symptoms that occur more often in adults with GERD.
“A new drug for GERD is expected to be approved by the FDA later this year,” Dr. The FDA is also reviewing other drugs for the same reason. In a statement, the agency noted the new drug is “a prescription drug and not an over-the-counter drug.
